Alright, what airlines are the best to get from US to where you live? Gonna stay for a while. :D

Seriously, wow... are you going to clean the surface on the gem?

Very nice! Here's my Byzantine ring. Despite the inscription, my name is not Leo, but it fit my finger, and one must takes these things as they come. ring03.JPG ring15.JPG

Pardon the newbie question but I'm curious -- what identifies it as "ancient Roman"?

The dealer who sold me mine told me it had a Bulgarian provenance.

Awesome find!! I hope it fits. :)

I've lately taken to wearing a Roman silver ring with niello decoration on it (the black triangles). I'm not really a jewelry kinda guy, but it's hard to resist this wearable connection to 2nd or 3rd century Rome...

@Severus Alexander, I totally agree with you. I don’t have a Roman ring, but if did I wouldn’t hesitate wearing it.

Almost 35 years ago I bought my wife a pendant with Roman glass when we were in Israel. I LOVE that piece (more than my wife does) because of the history.

My appreciation of “those who came before” is probably what is responsible for a veering lately toward ancient and medieval coinage.
