hi all I have an 1889 rupee which someone turned into a brooch Question ....should I unsolder it before selling for a better price or not.
I found this example on eBay. So far 0 bids on the $20 price. Since its not too expensive, I don't think you're risking damaging its value by un-soldering the clips on the coin. https://www.ebay.com/itm/BRITISH-IN...576142?hash=item33f699558e:g:QhMAAOSwMWNbuxch
Use the best solder removing technique you can get your hands on. I used to have a spring-loaded vacuum sucker in a prior life.
Since the clasp is broken, one would have to unsolder the old one and replace it anyway. I suspect it is less % of value no matter choice. If I was in this situation, i would put it in a bezel for a pendant or gift it. Jim
If it's lead solder it will probably come off, if it's silver solder there is a good chance it is part of the coin now.
