Okay, I've posted one Bust Half that didn't have a star but absolutely deserved it. I've posted one Bust half that had a star but didn't deserve it.

Now for the kicker, here's a third one. You decide! (I hope you're keeping up with all of this @ddddd ;) ) These pictures are by @robec , and are absolutely honest, reflecting the coin very well.

I definitely look for this designation when searching through auction listings. I don't always like the coins that received the "*", but I do like a lot of them.

Loving all these CBH's on CT the last few days! I'd be proud to own this one, but I will say no star.

If the 1835 received a star then the 1821 should also. Yes to this one.

I just wanted to post the summary to keep track...now we can continue with the 1821.

I'll still say the 1813 was the best of the trio (this 1821 is again nice but still dark...plus I'm not a fan of whatever is going on around the date, particularly around the number 2), so again:
    NO star

I'd love to own any one of these halves. I have to go star on this one as well.

It is a beautiful capped bust half, but no star for me.

If you want an example of what I consider to be a star worthy bust half, there was a monster toned PCGS OGH coin with a gold CAC that Mark Feld started a thread about a few years back calling it the best he had ever seen. I remember it because I think I was the direct under bidder.

The 1821 is tricky, because the obverse is fantastic - there is plenty of luster that makes the toning really pop. The reverse has that spottier appearance though, which doesn't usually get the star. If the reverse matched the obverse, I would say that it hands-down deserved the star.

NGC did give this one a Star, and overall I agree with them (the obverse is just lovely.)

Ok, here is a rainbow toned full step premium gem Jefferson Nickel for consideration.

The reverse is neutral, but I think the obverse rainbow toning pushes this into star territory.

I don't care for the toning pattern so I say no star

No on the Jefferson. I’d have said no on all 3 bust halves too. Ldhair posted several I’d call more star worthy recently

Agreed, I say the obverse is enough as well for the star.

    Cool thread idea.

    Deserved star on the Jefferson.

I'm split on this one but will lean towards Yes on the star
