@ron_c did that Morgan have a star on the slab?

    I’ll update the summary afterwards.

Floor is open for a new coin...

No, it did not have a Star and did not deserve one.

On the 1958-D Franklin, these mint set coins are commonly found with rainbow toning. This one doesn't have enough color, the color isn't vibrant enough, and the toning pattern is too mottled for a star. If this coin would star, then most of the others would star as well.

Regardless of date and mint mark, I would be a no on the Franklin.

    No star on the Franklin

...I'll update the summary after we finish with the Franklin (it's still up until @physics-fan3.14 wants to call it)

No Star on the Franklin Half. IMO that dark brown toning is very unattractive (UGLY).

Ah, forgot to update this at lunchtime.

My vote, like most of yours, is that this should receive no star.

However, NGC did give it a Star.

Now, how about this one? Same date and mintmark, but a sorta different pattern. In my opinion, while the above coin was quite attractive (and the green *popped* in hand quite a bit more than the pictures show), the first coin did not deserve a star. In my opinion, the delightful rainbow on the obverse of this second coin absolutely deserves a star! (and yes, the luster is all there)

I just updated the last two rounds and now we can focus on the second 1958-D Franklin....

I like this one more than the first example, but from the photo it still looks too dark (especially the reverse)....this one is close, but I'd lean towards:

    NO star

While the colors are nice, to me, the eyes are drawn to the spots than take away from the toning.

    No Star.

Much better, but still a little dark for me. It is worth a premium, but no star from me.
