To Grade or Not to Grade

If I purchase a coin and decide, based on my expertise and understanding of current grading standards, that it is an AU-58 then I must, from an ethical and moral standpoint, sell it as such. If I were to put the coin out as an MS62, I would in fact be purposefuly misrepresenting the coin in an attempt to "steal" money from my customer.

Unfortunately, eBay has allowed a large number of dealers who believe this behaviour is perfectly ethical to expose themselves to a clientele which often does not know any better. The fact that the "scam" occurs with such regularity is a shame. What is even more disheartening, is that often the customers never know until they try to sell their purchased coins to a more reputable dealer.

Often in life the low road is the easier the path, in business is the one filled with more profits and quicker returns, but this does not mean it is the road the should be taken. The high road will ALWAYS offer a greater personal return and in the long run, will provide those who travel it a handsome reward.
