I like the coin Pishpash linked. Nice patina, cheaper, and no apparent BD. However, part of Agrippa's face is off flan. If you can live with that and want an example right away, go for it.
The coin is real and in pretty darn good condition from what I can see on my phone. I own two of these, and they are no way in the class of LRBs. It's not a bad price either.
The question of ever seeing a perfect specimen of this coin is one I still have to see answered. The question of my affording it is a certain "No!" I wrote my page on the type for that reason. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/impossible.html
Thanks so much for the link, Doug. I appreciate the write up. I heard back from the seller and he said that the coin is stable. I'm still debating between the two. But I really like the green on the first one. Man, I hate being so indecisive. Thanks again! Erin
It's easy to feel urgency for buying certain coins. Be assured though that there will be many more of this type of coin offered-- and many more of most other coins you may want.
I like the green one too. In fact, that very coin almost joined my collection two years ago . It was one of six coins I had on a list for my parents to choose from to buy as my birthday present that year. They chose something else (an Antoninus Pius denarius), and I eventually ended up with another Nemausus crocodile about a year later.
Nice coin, zumbly! Thanks for sharing. I went ahead and got the coin. I really like the crocodile on it. Thanks again for all the advice and comments, I really do appreciate them! Erin
I'm happy to hear of your decision. The coin has many good features and only the rough patches on Agrippa to detract. Post your best photo effeort of it and what you think of it 'in hand' when it arrives.
Congrats! Good to see the coin finally found a home. I hope you'll be pleased with it when it arrives.
Thanks, Doug and zumbly. I'm relieved when I pressed the buy button. Indecisiveness is incredibly frustrating. I'll attemp to take half decent photos of it. My only camera is my phone, so my pictures probably won't do it much justice. I'll definitely be happy with it, as I am with all my coins. Erin
