    Top dollar refers to what something goes for now. No one can get future prices on something that they sell now. Usually they draw only a portion of current prices. In that case I got full retail value or top dollar. The fact that it later went higher is a crap shoot fluke. Frequently new varieties plummet in value once people are looking for them and new supplies hit the market.
