I'm pretty sure that I have already posted all of them here, but I found myself re-organizing some binders the other week and decided it was time for a new group shot. Earlier this year I finally upgraded my ratty Augustus provincial and Claudius AE As, bringing the set finally to what I would consider "show quality". Always fun to see them together like this.

    Twelve Caesars updated 2020.jpg

    Top Row:

Julius Caesar AR lifetime denarius, CAESAR DICT PERPETVO / P SEPVLLIVS MACER, Venus verticordia with Victory

Augustus AR Cistophorus, Ephesus mint, IMP CAESAR / AVGSTVS, Capricorn within wreath

Caligula AE As, C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS PON M TR POT / VESTA S-C, Vesta seated left

Claudius AR Cistophorus, Ephesus TI CLAVD CAES AVG / ROM ET AVG, COM ASI, Temple of Rome and Augustus

Nero AR Denarius, IMP NERO CAESAR AVGVSTVS / IVPPITER CVSTOS, Jupiter Custos seated left

    Second row:

Galba AR Denarius, IMP SER GALBA CAESAR AVG / VIRTVS, Virtus standing slightly left

Otho AE of Antioch, IMP M OTHO CAE AVG / SC within wreath

Vitellius AR Denarius, A VITELLIVS GERM IMP AVG TR P / LIBERTAS RESTITVTA, Liberty standing slightly right

Vespasian AR Denarius, IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG / COS VIII, Mars standing with trophy and spear

Titus AR Denarius, IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M / TR P VIIII IMP XIIII COS VII, Sol standing on rostral column

Domitian AR Denarius, IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM P M TR P XII / IMP XXII COS XVI CENS P P P, Minerva standing right

I know there are a bunch of Twelve Caesars sets out there, so post 'em if you got 'em!

Terrific! I especially like the Otho provincial. It's not something you see everyday and the portrait is very sharp!

When I was a kid, I had a Black Dutch Rabbit whose name was Julius. Showed him at County and State fairs. Would that work for you? Here is a pic...

    Oh, and he pooped EVERYWHERE!

Opinions will vary but I would consider shooting all coins separately and merging them into a set. If you start with the largest coin and shoot the smaller ones from the same difference, size will take care of itself. This allows changing lighting and exposure as best fits the coin.

Great set! I'm missing Julius and Otho, and that may always be the case. I know I could save my money until I can afford them, and not buy any other coins until then, but I don't think I have the willpower to do that. So my 10 Caesars may have to suffice. Although, aren't there 12 from Vitellius through Commodus? I could do that set!

Talk about glory of Rome!! I’ve only got three rather poor Caesars so I’ll sit out lest I embarrass myself!

I'll never put a set of the 12 Caesars together but I enjoy looking at the ;). Your Nero & Domitian denarii are my favorites :D. The Domitian denarius looks MS with a stunning reverse :jawdrop:.

Awesome set, @Finn235 ... very much my type! Congrats.

I have the Seutonius 12 also... mix and match.

A philosophy question: Which is better?
    1. a set of twelve matched denomination and grade coins even if they are less than the best - that means the Domitian is no better than the Caligula
    2. a denarius set having our best coin for the common rulers and a space filler for the more difficult ones
    3. a set of nice coins but mixed between Imperials, Provincials, silver and bronzes
    4. a set with no compromised coins but the set lacks one or more rulers

We all will have to make choices or pay for that MS aureus set. I prefer set 3.

I share your choice of number three, that is what my 12 are like, with the exception of one worn aureus.
