I collect Sarawak coins which is near there. Sarawak is a story unto itself : " The White Rajah ".

The problem isn't in buying Cuban coins on eBay, it's selling them. I listed a small lot of Cuban coins one time and received an email from eBay threatening to suspend my account permanently. Many list them as Caribbean Socialist or Communist coins to get around the robots.

Yes, some folks list them as "Caribbean Island" coins or "Latin American" coins or "World" coins but others list them as Cuba coins. I've never seen them listed as "Socialist or Communist" coins.

Perhaps your coins were too new? I really don't know why eBay would do that. I've seen Cuba coins of all years, old and new, for sale on eBay. About 60-70 % have been disguised as something other than Cuba coins.

Perhaps it has to do with the potential profits eBay will make. It seems the bigger sellers get away with much more than smaller sellers.

If you're lucky you can get away with it for awhile, but keep doing it and they always catch up to you. It doesn't matter what you call it. I believe there are people who flag it, either eBay employees or busybody users with too much time on their hands. I'll list some for sale once in awhile. They sell really well, but after I sell three or four, inevitably I'll get an email saying my listing has been removed because it's embargoed merchandise. It doesn't matter what year they are or that they were made in the U.S. Ebay clearly doesn't want to make those decisions. They just remove everything from Cuba. Oh, and if you sell on a different site and "Cuba" is in the title, you can get in trouble with Paypal too. I have a bunch of Cuban coins I'd like to sell right now but it's not worth risking losing my eBay account.
