My father's coin collection has/had (it's been split between my father and I. I got an 1862 silver and 3 of the copper mix. (1865, 1868, and an 1874). My family is split between the west coast and the east coast. I married an North Carolina girl and my parents, and my brother and sisters live in California. That doesn't give me a chance to see what coins my brother got. I like to look at coins and am lucky enough to have the resources to get what I want. I did get a chance to purchase many half dollars about a year ago. I'm still trying to figure out if the money I paid for that collection is worth it. I am now trying to start a collection of Mercury Dimes. Dad had a bunch of them, and I am trying to figure out how to start a collection on them. Many of the coins I got were quite nice.

I need some guidance on the best way to start. I heard mention of "Gray Sheets" or something like that. I live in a remote corner of a tobacco field and most of my neighbors only communicate on the amount of tobacco they will grow this year. I did get in a conversation about turkeys and turkey houses.

Anyway, any good books about Mercury Dimes? I do have a bunch of Red Books that I got in an auction. I think I paid about $2 for each book. Most of these farmers only read seed catalogs or labels on canned goods.

Anyway, I would appreciate any help you can give. Oh, yeah, my other hobby is Zane Gray and Louie L'Amour books. I went to one auction, and bought a bunch of coins with one of their novels.

All my best to you guys.
