ive been detecting since 1986. you wont find a ton of rare coins. you MIGHT find some but it depends where your at. just about any beach coin is going to have severe environmental damage to it. I think my rarest coins found are the 1914d cent and the 1901s, 03s and 04s dimes.

I ordered a new Garrett 250 Ace. Should be here in a couple days. I live in FL. I may have some luck. I couldn't afford something nicer yet. I read a lot of reviews. Seems like it is the best for the buck to start. Today I received my new coin scale. It's nice. 3000g/0.1g. stainless. I think it was $13.00 total. I'm not looking to get rich... I need the exercise and so far it's been fun.

if your going to be detecting the beaches, make sure you get a sturdy beach sifter.

If I understand your question the Garrett is wet/dry sand device. For now it's a shovel or a trowel.
