Phenomenal story. I also read the entire previous thread about this acquisition of three amazing bust dimes. Congrats +++ on this. Please keep CT informed of this ongoing saga.
Congratulations. You scored a major win honorably. I never feel guilty about being the high bidder at an auction no matter how much I benefit. I have frequently passed on great face to face lots because I did not have the money to pay a fair price and I don't cheat people to get the price down to what I can afford.
Amazing finds. Truly one of a kind find and you got 3. I would love to see these hit the market and see you win bigger than you already have. That 66 is going to bring some serious strong money!!
Nice find. Hard to believe that you had to bid against another collector that knew the value of those coins. My experience has been that very few knowledgeable people bid at estate auctions.
You can’t split up the two consecutive numbers that are both tied for 2nd finest! They go as a group. No telling how long they have been together. I don’t doubt for a second that all 3 coins will CAC. That 66 seems like the coin you would see on a cover of an auction. That is just a coin that doesn’t come around. I wish we had more story in where these coins came from, who they were obtained by and how long have they been passed down for. It echoes the saying that not all high dollar coins are “already” in TPG plastic. They are just laying around in old envelops waiting to come back to the market.
This. I tried to gather a little more info about the collector, but didn't pry too hard because families are entitled to their privacy. Even a name would have been nice. The story is half the fun, but the story is very much incomplete. I'm just lucky to be a part of it. And yes, these three and my profile pic 1797 (which graded AU55) came from the same collection. All in envelopes. I only won 5 or 6 coins from this collection, but I feel like I got the cream of the crop.
Stunning coins. That MS66 last one posted if a head above the other 2. Congrats! I'm sure these will end up in a strong registry set.
