I just received this coin today,I know there are a few others in here who know shields. Keep in mind there are like 5 known varieties of the 1883 /2 shield nickel. The first has 5 and possiblely 6 different die states. I have given you all the key pick up points in the images. If you visit shieldnickels.net you will be able to see images of the list below, as well as the different die states. What say you? From the information given. Have fun with this one. FS5c-013 F-08 S1-5001 B2524 PM-18V.4 FS5c-013.1 F-09 S1-5002 B2525 PM-18V.2 FS5c-013.2 F-10 S1-5003 B2526 PM-18V.3 FS5c-013.3 S1-5004 F-07 S1-5000 (the rule breaker)
Well what about this one? another 1883 Shield an FS-05 1883 -305 {Fletcher-07} in AU + has an URS of -4/ R-7, and is the "exception to the rule" on 1883/2 shields. The secondary 2 is centered under the 3 the left curve of the 2 is visible connecting the center point of the 3.This is the only one of the 1883/2 over dates of the 5 varieties known where the 2 is not centered between the last 8 and 3. Now why am I so crazy over shield nickels? How about a $50 purchase turning into a $1600. variety nickel?
Awesome Nickels! You certainly have an eye for these varieties. And web site you referenced answers my question from my thread
