Yes, but with the advent of the grading services they are getting better.

It is another example of a strong currency and a strong collector base in their own country. Like better Swiss and Chinese are becoming hard to find.

I guess that is good for when I come to sell my coins. :)

Fortunately most people around here do not care much about US grading services. ;) But yes, many sellers do say "gereinigt" when offering a cleaned coin. A couple of years ago that was different ...

The acetone didn't help a lot, but the coin still has some nice detail.
I think its a nice XF example.

    Here's another recent pickup.
This one also has some nice detail... But, I think it has been cleaned :(

I’d say nicer than VF...plenty of luster puts it in the XF-AU range, if you ask me. A nice, historic piece that encompasses the terribly hyper-inflationary period in the early 20s and precedes Hindenburg’s death five years later, when Adolph Hitler stepped into the limelight.

Yes, that was pretty much the end of the few "golden" years between the end of the inflation and the '29 economic crisis. And in '33 it was president Hindenburg who appointed Hitler and thus made him chancellor. Although that is not what the coin is about. ;)
