I have had 38 D buffalos in 66 as well 68 that make that look sick...i would go over $75 for that specimen. It looks to my eye as a flat strike, and what ever the black line is it on the cheek also.
Price isn't that far off some 67+/68 that have sold in the past on HA. Here's a 68 coming up without the crazy toning so let's see what it goes for. https://coins.ha.com/itm/buffalo-ni.../1348-4359.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515
I remember that coin, not a huge fan of the color or the pattern personally, aside from whatever caused that line, which is still a distraction. I feel a lot better for the “insane price” I paid for my example of that date now though which was about 1/10 of the hammer on the OP coin.
I have an original surface white one in NGC MS-66 for which I paid $60. At that price I’ll pass pass on this toned “wonder coin.” I’m happy every day that I never caught “toner fever.”
In my history a Buffalo is like a bllooming flowe. Then hit's it's peak and goes dormant untill the next Buyer comes along..
