Thoughts on this 1851-D $2 1/2??

And believe me, I keep pressuring him asking if he really is the rightful owner. I said that even if the current owner told him he can keep what he finds, he might change his mind if it is worth $10,000. I cannot tell him what to do with the coin, but I AM interested in knowing if it is real

I understand that this issue often comes with mushy denticles, but typically these are also weaker struck coins. I find it odd that it has mushy denticles but is otherwise well struck. That bothers me.
