I like the obverse over the reverse. I'm not a collector of modern commemoratives but may get this one in honor of my grandpa who served in the 49th Company 20th engineers during the war.

My father's uncle was killed in WW l at the age of 18 just hours after getting off his troop ship.
My father and his brothers always spoke of the uncle they never knew.
Dad was born in 1915 ,he was the 4th child of 5 .

When I look at the design - for me it just doesn't exhibit an air of 1918.

I'm not too sure that the obverse design is going to grow on me... I'm assuming that by now these are finalized design choices. In contrast, I like the Royal Mint's designs - though maybe in higher relief, more detail, and in silver would be preferred:

I think the reverse is OK, but I just can't get over the face on the obverse it looks horrible imo.

I really like that design. Spells out how warfare changed.

The crown countries have been doing WW1 coins for a while now. The war in the air coin you pictured does have a nice relief. It's an underrated coin in my opinion

I am thinking that the reverse is supposed to call to mind the classic poem "In Flanders Fields." :( Even though it was written by a Canadian. ;)

    Overall . . . I like it.

I don't care for the design...it just doesn't look very good to me. Good thing to commemorate but I think poorly executed.

Plus, the soldier in the design is displaying poor trigger safety with his rifle.

No. Soldiers in war only have their finger off the trigger on TV and in movies.

Hard to tell. In some countries it is the poppy that refers to the WW1 battlefields; in France it is the cornflower (bleuet) that reminds of the war veterans. So the French €2 coin will show a bleuet; the regular version will have no color. The proof version will come in light blue, dark blue and white, much like in the logo. Not sure what flower the US design shows ...
