<p>[QUOTE=&quot;JCB1983, post: 1306150, member: 23885&quot;]Thank you for bringing this to my attention.&nbsp; I decided to give my Grandmother a call, and got quite the history lesson.&nbsp; I was under the impression that he was in the Flying Tigers.&nbsp; As it turns out he was never in the Flying Tigers, but he navigated with general chenault on a mission or two, and my Grandma has pictures of them together.&nbsp; I thought this was pretty amazing, before the Chinese-Burma-India theatre he actually flew (navigated) the first B-29 that headed overseas.&nbsp; They flew them initially over to England, but flew them to various places in an attempt to pretend that they had more 29&#039;s than they actually had.&nbsp; Over in CBI, he was involved in various assignments, including troop chinese troop transport, and later on a few bombing raids.&nbsp; I think the coolest story she told me was that he actually met Mao Tse Tung.&nbsp;&nbsp; The story goes that he was fascinated wih Chinese culture, and was friends with the Dr. Of Mao Tse Tung.&nbsp; The Dr. was an American who was married to a Chinese woman.&nbsp; At the time Mao had not yet come into power, and was living in a cave.&nbsp; The doctor took him and one other guy to the cave one day,and he met Mao Tse Tung and Chou En Lai.&nbsp; My grandma must have talked for 2 hours, and I think she said he was stationed at Kunming.&nbsp; Anyway I&#039;m a huge history buff, and found this all fascinating.&nbsp; Love and miss my Grandpa, and he was a very humble person.&nbsp; He just wouln&#039;t go around bragging about this kind of stuff.[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
