Got interested in Artisticlly Toned Coins. Attached is an example. Would really have liked to watch its creation. For a penny collector an interesting deviation. Your thoughts about artistic Artistic Toning please? Supersteelerfan
I second that opinion. I find it to be ugly and distracting. However, each to their own. I'm just glad it is on a bullion piece and not on a coin.
There ain't no such thing as Artistic Toning. Artificial Toning (AT)…..yes! But, the artist who created this one needs to wash the fingerpaint off his hands before he goes home from kindergarten. Chris
I don't like the glorification or normalization of Artificial Toning, and certainly don't think that we need to muddy the waters by trying to change the definition of AT to mean "Artistically Toned." As for the coin in question, it is hideous. Personally, I would much rather have a colorized coin from the Perth Mint, at least they are as struck and intended.
Sorry, but this is the among the worst I’ve seen in numismatics besides the colorized Tuvalu islands Star Trek coins. And Chris is absolutely right, the definition of AT shouldn’t be changed to make it sound ok.
I had no idea about these until recently when looking for a 2019 Libertad and saw this seller on eBay. It looks like they use mostly bullion coins (ASE’s, Britannia’s, Libertads). There must be a market for these though.
