Yesterday morning while counting out register trays before work started I came across this 1972 Lincoln. What struck me initially was that the ridge of the coin was SUPER pronounced! That was enough for me to buy the coin from the register tray. When I got home and was able to look it up I saw information about all the DDO varieties on this particular year. I put it under my microscope which admittedly isn't the best - but I swear I am seeing doubling (no tequila in my system). Doing my research online last night as well brought me here https://www.lincolncentresource.com/doubledies/doubledies.html which showed me the many DDO varieties for this year Lincoln. Some are so subtle, but all in the same place as what I am questioning. Take a look at the attached photos and let me know what you think. P.S. - Forgot this in the post above - also look at the full coin image and check out the strange ridge on the obverse of the coin.
Classic case of Machine doubling in my opinion. BTW: Please show the whole coin, especially the date.

It very well could be one of the many doubled die varieties for 1972. The ring on the rim is known as a ridge ring and is very common.
Wow! Thank you Paddy, dwhiz, and Collecting Nut - I can't believe this! Really cool find! To think it just caught my eye initially because it was a nice shiny 1972 Lincoln Memorial penny in a cash register drawer. Who knew! Now the next thing (after putting it into a protective case just to keep it safe) is to see what it is worth!
