That is the same nice example we discussed long ago. They say "Apparently unrecorded type." I guess they don't read CT.

I have resigned myself to chasing after IMP II, IMP VIII, odd COS legends, malformed COS II legends (I have my own theories here that I am working on....) and II COS types that others don't spot or don't care about as much as I do. There will be times when I dabble outside this when I think something is interesting but am not chasing after left busts, armoured busts etc. etc. I have only bought one Severan Alexandrian in the last 2 or three years (ROMAE AETERNAE type). I have only bought one eastern Julia Domna in the last 3 or more years (FELECITAS TEMPOR, Basket of grains and fruit type).

Yes but that type is very important IMHO since it is the one in my collection that shows the sharing of dies between Septimius and Julia.

Is the COS--II here 'malformed' enough to be of interest?

    Doug,
That die certainly was of interest but I am not chasing after every COS I-I, COS -II that I stumble across.

The COS I-I was only a small part of the reason that I bought this one. The two different reverse dies were far more of a reason though.

It's the even more malformed ones that I am chasing after with CA SE PER etc. even though this one also happens to be COS - II

Rather than selling it—you could give it to a young non-ancient coin collector. The gift could motivate him/her to cross over to the dark side ;)

I recently overpaid for a long sought after type and knew it was overpriced (even after a minor discount), but I badly wanted it and knew what I was getting into.

Sometimes biting the bullet on a sought after rarity is oddly pleasurable. The curse of being a specialist I suppose.

Without having expert knowledge about the value of ancient coins, My guess is that this, somewhat fuzzy, Constantine coin would be in the lower league. If I was attempting to value it, for my own interest, I would like to know if there are any links with important, or interesting, historical events, maybe a battle, or significant commemoration, whatever. Of course, that would mean an amount of research, maybe with assistance from knowledgeable friends.
