I hear ya. I guess most would agree that a serious dealer would be one that makes a living from it. I forgot about that. I've sold some coins before, but I can't imagine trying to do so and make a living. That's tough

I understand your point about a quality coin is a quality coin, regardless of plastic, but here are the reasons why I think CAC does not deal in second tier grading companies:

    (1) Why bother, PCGS and NGC are clearly the only widely market acceptable graders, and there are millions of coins between them. It would be alot harder to sell a CAC stickered ANACS coin back to dealer-members of CAC, which is where CAC makes their money. (They do NOT stay in business based on the sticker fees)

    (2) Any good coin in an ANACS holder usually filters up to the top and gets cracked out and put into NGC/PCGS plastic. CAC is not going to waste time looking at 1000 ANACS coins to find the good ones. The market will "bubble" the good ones to the surface at the collector and dealer level, CAC just waits until its in the proper plastic.

    (3) CAC already looks at coins to their capacity. Sure, they could always expand, but right now it seems they are comfortable processing XXX coins per month. They dont need to include ANACS coins, if they want to expand they could re-open membership, OR start accepting more series. (For example, I have asked through a friend of JA to start accepting US-Philippines coins 1903-1945. He'll probably say no, but in my mind, it is an odd series to skip considering Hawaii and other territorial series are accepted.) My point is, there are other better more obvious ways to expand the business, if they were chose to.

    (4) You do realize that modern ANACS slabs dont stack?

I don't want to get into the dealer vs broker debate, or any other. Just sticking to the topic--ANACS. They are a very decent SECOND TIER TPG. They are not as esteemed as either PCGS or NGC (justifiably so), and do not grossly undergrade coins as was previously suggested. They also don't consistently overgrade either--they just have a track record (especially in recent years) of being less accurate than the "big two." As I have said before, their attribution of varieties is a significant contribution to the coin world, and for that reason alone, they have considerable value. I am also about to ship off 7 Daniel Carr coins that I bought--ANACS will slab tokens, medallions, and other numismedia that the other two will not. So, do they have value? Absolutely. Are they the equal of PCGS and NGC? No. However, there are many beautiful coins residing in ANACS holders that are often priced at very favorable prices for the buyer, and I have taken advantage of that fact many times.

I'm getting fed up with both PCGS and NGC as they continually market grade coins . Now if ANACS is really tightening their standards and the other two keep loosening theirs , their places in the Market just might flip flop .

True, always possible. I'm been hearing alot of noise about PCGS lately.

Just checked out your coins , you have some beauties in there . I can't believe your Draped Bust 1/2 cent is only a 25 , looks better than some 45s I've seen .

I will buy an ANACS graded coin with a good amount of confidece, but I wouldn't send them coins. Fewer people know of them, hence less competition/preiums.

(even though, weren't they the first?)

IME, ICG is not reliable and self-slabbers are almost always problems or overgrades.

(I sometimes buy them left behind if the coin is still good, but I'm the one grading it.)

The ANACS today has no connection beyond name/acronym to the ANACS that was formed by the ANA. Even then, I'm not sure they were the first grading company. They might have been one of the first three.
