I couldn't agree with that sentiment more Mr.Kentucky ... Infact I could be wrong and I could just be looking at what appears to be a doubled tree trunk but isn't a doubled tree trunk . Infact I'll be the first to admit that Ive made some mistakes before because no one's Perfect . But you see what bothers me the most is instead of people being mature and pointing the mistakes out we always seem to have some some arrogant know it all person who jumps on your post being rude and obnoxious about it . And so with that I'm going to retract my observation about the tree trunk and move on from this post because I shouldnt be stooping to anyone's level when I know for a fact how immature they really are .

And I would like to encourage new members to familiarize themselves with the parties and issues involved before deciding to condemn what they clearly do not understand.

Agreed, but I cannot help but to wonder why you seem to think it's acceptable when coming from you?

Perhaps you could come down off of your high horse long enough to see what's really going on here? If you care so deeply about the future of this hobby, perhaps you should think about, and show some concern for, those who very well may come across this thread in the future and could be harmed by the nonsense within. There's a difference between asking about what one does not understand, and presenting laughably uninformed opinions as if fact.

@Jewels2017 - whatever you do, don't give up. I think it's great that you are constantly looking for stuff, and even better that you can recognize that something is amiss.

The key is knowing why something is amiss that's important. I'm guessing you haven't been doing this long, which is fine, as I just recently got back into it from when I was a teenager. The first thing I realized this time around, is that there is tons of things to learn about this hobby, especially if you're delving into niche areas like errors.

I'm going to reiterate what was said earlier, but I'll try it in a positive way.

There is a plethora of information readily available at your fingertips. Use that info to your benefit. Not just here on CT, but the many sites by experts dedicated to errors and varieties. Find the better sites (varietyvista as an example), and go there first. You think you found a new DDR? Awesome! Research everything you can about DD's to verify what you think you've found. Research requires an unbiased assessment, so since we all want to find that new variety and retire, it's best to look at it from the point of view that it is not what you think it is, until you can prove it is. Look for things your find doesn't have that would contradict your belief, don't look for things only to vindicate what you believe. Learn the difference between DD vs MD/SD, PMD vs ME, and even DD vs Longacre's Doubling, which is just a very short list of things that are possible.

So, read, compare, ask, and educate yourself, and become an expert on what interests you. Then you can say 'eureka!'. But until then, you (or I, or anyone) can look at any coin and find something that can be misinterpreted, only causing disappointment and potential embarrassment. And always remember to be open and willing to be wrong.

BUT....... like I said, don't give up! It's a fun hobby, has great personal rewards, and potential for huge financial rewards, all with minimal investment.

Please maintain your enthusiasm. You just seemed to be getting a little obsessive (as do I sometimes). Good Hunting!

Wow ... Well Ive never been told that I need to maintain my enthusiasm for collecting coins before . And if my enthusiasm actually offends people in the cointalk then I'm obviously in the wrong group to begin with . Infact the only thing that I think that really needs to be maintained is the amazing amount of arrogance that alot of seasoned Collectors use when addressing the new members because not only does that demonstrate their poor level of maturity but it also shows other new members what level of respect to expect whenever dealing with seasoned members ...

Beefer518 I will be certain to take your advice . Infact I've done a little homework here and there on what I find alot of times and ive even researched a few things on MD, SD and DD along with other areas of errors but then again there's always room for people to grow .Because unfortunately we can't know everything although it sure would be nice if I really did .... Lol

Ignore the bold underlined "word" for now. Read this quote and see if it makes a lick of sense. So we arrogant, seasoned collectors should "maintain our amazing amount of arrogance when dealing with new members"? Seriously? Also, there is a punctuation mark called a comma. We use them to break up terribly long run-on sentences so they make sense. Your quote above could have used some. It would have at least been easy to read, even if what you wrote was the complete opposite of what you were trying to say.

Now the bold "word". As many times as you use the phrase, I would think by now you would know it is two words. In fact, I saw Books B4 Coins bring this to your attention twice already. However, just like the coins you have been told over and over what are, you seemed to overlook that also.

I'm sorry you feel my maturity level could use some work. I guess my patience has worn thin. I spend all day telling my 2 year old son "No!" I don't guess I expected to have to repeat this with an adult that claims to be so "enthusiastic" about learning about errors and varieties. Things my 2 year old are enthusiastic about he learns very quickly. It's the things he does NOT want to do that I find myself repeating "No!"

Alas! Maybe I just discovered the answer to this conundrum! ;)

My lord... quit whining and being so ridiculously over emotional. In no way did the man say or suggest your enthusiasm a bad thing, and was made VERY clear in his post. In (note the SPACE) fact, he's complimenting you.

And since you like to harp on maturity, perhaps the time has come to seriously question your own. The average toddler can handle rejection better than you, at least from what you've shown here.

Instead of arguing and throwing little hissy fits, please, try doing as has been repeatedly suggested and make an honest effort to educate yourself. Continuing to avoid the obvious, and blaming everyone else for focusing on reality doesn't hurt us, but it does hurt you. Give it some thought, please... and I'm being sincere here.

Wow ... And so now I'm just whining and throwing hissy fits because I can't handle rejection well . And all this talk has absolutely nothing to do with the obvious fact that someones arrogant comments was not even called for ???? Just like these huge egos and the lack of respect that some of our other seasoned members like to constantly demonstrate with new members but that's not a problem either right .... Well anyway booksb4coins as usual here you go on another one of my post trying to twist things around to suit you . And ofcourse it's no surprise to me now because I expect that from you since this isn't the first time that you have done this . Infact I'm really starting to see now that you are certainly the kind of guy who likes to throw rocks and then hide your hands ... But instead of trying to always talk around the actual problem and trying to tell other people what to do why dont you please just grow the heck up and act your age man !

    OR stupidity!
Or do we need some Johnny come lately to come in to this forum ,and give their opinion on how to deal with stupid people who have no merit in anything they post.
Then they continue to post the same ,after numerous times being told that their "UNIQUE ERROR" isn't anything unique! Do they research their finds ,and learn from what experienced members have shared with them? No! Of course not! They just come in post disinformation about a glob of medal found on a coin!

So you can take your 7 day tenure here ,and go find yourself a forum that best suits your thin skin.!
As this forum and it's members have served ,and shared it's knowledge with many new members over the "years I've been a member."
If you think that after a week ,or month of being a member here you're going to change the dynamics of this forum...let me assure you .....you come to the wrong place!
There's collectors here on CT whom been collecting longer then you been breathing!
Their experience in all aspects of this hobby are well respected.
And because of that respect and sharing of knowledge this community has grown to what it is....one of the best sources of information on the subject.

Paddy54 stupidity must be your middle name . Because nothing you said has anything to do with the fact that alot of you lack this thing called Respect and Maturity and you girlfriend certainly lack them both ... And as a matter of fact . This is a perfect example of how sometimes people can seem to be very smart in one way and then be very stupid in another way . Like right now . I've been trying to hold a mature and intelligent conversation about the lack of Respect and arrogance that some of the seasoned members have and here you are still carrying on about a stupid glob of metal as you called it . So you see MS. Paddy54 . This is clearly not your strong suit . Because no one is no longer talking about coin errors or the possibility that I could have been wrong . The discussion is now pretaining to a whole different topic . And so if your going to include you self in the discussion again then you need to either please catch up or just sit down somewhere and mind your business since we are trying to have an adult conversation . Or better yet . if you don't have anything nice to say then please just don't say nothing at all .

Another example of a familiar pattern:
    1. OP asks whether he's found something unusual.
    2. Veteran, knowledgeable collectors tell him he hasn't -- and tell him what his "find" actually is.
    3. OP argues and then insults veteran collector.

Now, ask yourself if the purpose of the thread was to get an answer to No. 1 -- or be able to execute No. 3. I'll vote for the latter.

When i joined cointalk i asked where do you find the books to put those crazy shaped ancient coins in. I survived that one. Glad i did. Not all are our cup of tea and would make terrible babysitters

Okay, Mr. Perfect; let's do this now and get it over with.

"Arrogance", "egos", and "lack of respect", huh? Try this on for size...

When you "CHOOSE to ALLOW" others? Who the hell are you to say or even think such a thing, and all this because someone tried to help you in a thread you needlessly hijacked (notice the pattern)? Another fine example of how the forum's precious little boy must be coddled and handled with kid gloves, lest he throw another tantrum. While just one of many, the above quote perfectly displays your own pitiful "arrogance", laughable "ego", and total "lack of respect" for both this forum and the entirety of its members.

Then we've this little gem, which still sits unedited even though a certain mod has been, on at least three different occasions, either noticed of it or tagged. Surely there's nothing ego-driven, disrespectful, or arrogant behind this, nor was it anything other than a sincere attempt to educate or assist other forum members, right?

Oh, but this surely fine "business man" is really just trying to help fellow forum members improve their imaging skills. So what if he didn't bother to identify his tools or method as is the norm or as so many others here have selflessly done, and instead expected others to blindly call him; he was only, and selflessly, trying to help! Well, except for the fact he wasn't....

    Oops!

Your brilliant analogy, of course, doesn't make the least bit of sense and is beyond ridiculous, but hey; you're Mr. Perfect and that makes everything a-okay!

Now, since you like to incessantly harp on the subject, lets use the opportunity to show a few examples of your own "maturity" and infinite "class"....

Yet you continue to be ridiculously irrational, and excessively emotional, in thread after thread as soon as someone disagrees, or simply tries to educate you. This very thread, and your infinitely sad reaction to Jay's effort is a prime example of how, instead of simply thanking him, you use the opportunity to cry and go on the attack.

I've addressed this before, but every person here can learn something from every other member. I've absolutely no doubt there are things you could teach me, and the reverse is also most certainly true; we just happen to be discussing subjects that I, and many others, are more familiar with, yet every attempt to educate is treated as an insult or personal attack.

You just love to claim how fond of research you supposedly are, yet the fact is that actions speak louder than words. See the above.

On this we agree, and I am most certainly one of them. The thing is, and perhaps you haven't noticed, the members who tried to help you early in your "participation" here have mostly disappeared from your threads, indicating that short those who pop in for a little moral posturing, there are fewer and fewer members willing to waste their time trying to help you. You've already alienated a number of the most knowledgeable and helpful members in your area of interest, and if you keep it up, sooner or later you'll be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

You can either help us, or those still willing, to help you, and make this a mutually beneficial experience, or continue with the nonsense; the choice is yours, but do understand that false and/or misleading claims, or posting incorrect information as fact will be countered. As the old saying goes: " there are no free rides"...

At the very least, those who feel the need to ignorantly defend what they do not understand can now see this is a two-way street.
