Cool finds, you must get some interesting stuff in those change machines, sounds like fun...

I haven't been in this section of the forum lately. I was wondering if someone could tell me any info about this San Francisco series 2001 $5 star note, but didn't want to start a new thread. I notice someone gave the number of notes printed of a certain series, federal reserve and denomination. I don't come across star notes too often myself, even though I'm always looking for them.... but this one was extra crisp so I kept it. I was just curious as to whether or not it is one of the more common star notes out there.... anyone?

The pictures are a little off-color, the slight yellowish tint is from my camera, not the note.

Nice find rexesq! Not a bad looking SN either.

Fr-1988L* San Francisco. All Series 2001 $5 were printed at Fort Worth, Texas. There were 5,120,000 * notes for the SF district printed.

Book value in ChCU is at $40 in The Official Red Book - A Guide Book of United States Paper Money, Second Edition by Friedberg.
Book value in ChCU is at $30 in Standard Guide to Small-Size U.S. Paper Money 1928 to Date, Ninth Edition by Schwartz & Lindquist

Your note is pretty far below ChCU and even several steps below AU in my eyes. The note isn't perfectly flat due to circulation and there are a number of heavy creases running horizontal across the note, particularly over the portrait. The corners don't look too bad and the paper looks clean. Maybe we can approximate this one at 2x face or a touch more to someone looking for a place holder in a collection. I'd say it's a keeper despite the condition but the creases are killing it grade wise, IMO.

Hope this is the sort of info you were looking for.

That is precisely the sort of info I was looking for. Thank you much.
I am very unfamiliar with grading currency, I see what you mean about all the creases and such. I just kept it because it still felt quite crisp and clean.
I have alot more foreign currency than U.S. currency but this one goes nicely in my minimal collection of star notes and silver certs.
    Thanks again krispy.

You're quite welcome! Others may grade it differently but I tried to offer the best I could based on the images presented us.

If you are interested in what the TPGs go by for grading standards, have a look at PCGS Currency and PMG numerical grades for a general idea of grading.

Heh they look just a dollar and ten dollar to me :p don't find anything unusual about them.

I would grade the note somewhere between F+ to VF, but just because all I'm going from is a scan. It probably will fall into the VF range due to crispiness and nice corners, but the creases prevent it from achieving XF. I'd say value is around 1.5-1.8x face value based on the scan. I love star notes, so I always say they're keepers!
