    Nice Vitellius, Orfew:)

    Here are my denarii.

Vitellius. AD 69. AR Denarius. Rome mint. Struck circa April-December AD 69.
    Obv: Laureate head right
Rev: Libertas standing facing, head right, holding pileus and scepter. RIC I 105; RSC 47.

    VITELLIUS.
69 AD. AR Denarius. Lugdunum (Lyon) mint.
Obv: Laureate head right, globe at point of bust
Rev: Mars walking left, holding spear and standard. RIC I 51

This is a relatively scarce coin. This one is unfortunately, badly corroded.

This must have been an incredibly well-struck coin when it left the mint, in order for the obverse legends to have held up that well under what is clearly considerable circulation and wear. Vitellius' portrait is as distinctive on this coin as it is on most EF examples. This is quite a coin.

My second coin of Vitellius was an aureus, with the common Libertas reverse. The obverse portrait, however, was very different from my denarius -- sort of a deer-in-the-headlights look:

I'd really like to have a spanish mint Vitellius eventually. I just can't justify the cost of them.
