I have now redacted my statement. I found one that was 99.99% of the quality, but one-seventh the price.
That one sold this year and a PCGS one that was a 68+ as well. The NGC went for almost a third of the PCGS price neither was stickered so apparently a lot of people agree.
I wouldn't touch it at 68+ with a CAC sticker. But I quite agree with your point. Morgans are one issue where NGC still seriously lags PCGS in the market.
I was going to call it a 67 before I saw the slab. I'm not sure that I can agree with the assigned grade as nice as it is.
I just don't agree with NGC on this one. There is no way this is a 68+. The coin is gorgeous, but those two large hits on the cap are just too big to not subtract at least a point. I would only grade this at a 67+ and I probably would still pass on it as a 67+. My eye's just can't unsee those marks.
Those marks don't personally bug me at all. Even knowing they're there I don't see them at all. My eye is drawn everywhere but there still. Not sure how they justify the + but I have no problems with this being a 68 still so long as it has the luster/eye appeal in hand. Would also have no problem at 67+ and I would proceed to snap buy it at that grade.
I would absolutely agree with both NGC and CAC on that one. That is one monster Morgan!! WOW!! @LostDutchman should feature this as "The coolest thing to walk into his shop" You just don't see MS68+✭ CAC Morgan Dollars. That one is a jaw dropper.
Consider me slain. That's a 68 at the top end of the grade, and quite likely worth $16k as you'd have to double that to get one of the 69's. Here are two MS69's from Heritage: https://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-dol...4-2619.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 https://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-dol...1-4956.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515 I consider the coin Ike linked to be on par with the first Heritage coin - which does not have a CAC bean, not that it needs one - and superior to the $48,000 Lack Lee CAC coin linked second (look at the reverse lettering on that one). Frankly, I'm not sure I'd quibble if the Ebay coin said 69 instead of 68. Yes, I'd give $16k for it.
That one keeps popping up on my ebay homepage as a suggested item. They are either taunting me or they think I have more money than I do lol
