Each series tends to have it's own standard reference and some coins my have catalog numbers to more than one reference. For example large cents can be found with numbers referenced to Maris, Hayes, Frossard, Doughtry, Sheldon, Breen, Andrews, Newcomb, or Wright, and for some with Noyes Photo numbers.
