There wasn't anything in the auction about the cert number being different. The coin is the same date/mint/grade PER pcgs but I buy coins, not the plastic, and it was NOT the same coin .. the one advertised was beautiful.. the one i rec'd was spotted, less luster. we all know that whether its pcgs or ngc or any other tpg the grade assigned by the grader can vary ... you can lay two slabs ms64 side by side and see differences... i wanted the one i bid on & won. i've seen those auctions where the cert number is wiped off the coin on display & the seller does state the buyer will win 'one of same grade, etc' ... this wasnt it and i hate that seller & hope he gets his.
The seller emailed me back about the 1917 Lincoln Cent MS65 RD and said he didnt know the difference between MS65 RD and circulated. He didnt even know what the word "circulated" meant. Obviously this guy doesnt know jack about coins or what they're worth. You would think if you're going to sell a particular item on Ebay or anywhere for that matter you'd do a little research and at least get your prices within a reasonable ballpark figure. Setting a $30 dollar starting bid for a circulated 1917 Lincoln cent tells me he's trying to scam the uneducated collectors into a major ripoff. I tried to inform him what I thought the coin was really worth but I dont think it sunk in.
Hahahha I hot a response back, he said it was a mistake. But get this, the mistake wasn't the ms65, he said puting in circulated was the mistake!!
I was looking at this sellers feedback and found who gave him his negative. You have got to see this!!click here Putting the name in toolhaus.com makes for some good reading....if you have some time!
why are the bulk of the posts on this so naive? misrepresented items are not mistakes. outrageous claims are not mistakes. they sellers don't care what the reality is, they just hope that whoever bids uses previous selling prices on eBay as the market value of an item. here's the same idea condensed - they are scamming the daisy pickers. i have no idea why anyone would buy a coin sight unseen unless you know the seller or are holding the item in your hand for inspection. even though i'm just starting out a collection and the coins i'm buying are under $20.00, i still treat the deal as if it was my life savings. go into every deal with the same caution and attention, and you will have nothing to worry about. i guess those in the previous generation are more trusting - i trust no one. -Steve
Then I totaly agree with you! And I would also want the coin that I bid on....I just thought that maybe he was selling bulk. Speedy
Naive "old timers" Hi Steve, We're not as naive as you think we are. Guess we're just a bunch of "old dogs" having a lot of fun with this one. I know that I am and have received a response from the seller that I will share in another post. Actually it's quite admirable that you are SO careful as you delve into this hobby. I've been doing it for nearly 40 years and am quite careful myself. You will (hopefully) find some sellers that are honest in every transaction. These people work for your trust and WANT your continued business. I have a select few that I buy from "sight unseen" but can tell you that none of them has ever let me down. When you get to that point these people will often offer layaway and full refunds if not satisfied. Hey, THEY want good customers as well. You are correct on that point. People can be trusted once they EARN it. I just put out $1750 for 4 coins from dealers that I trust. They did NOT let me down and believe me I'm not into the habit of spending that kind of money. Blew my budget. Totally "closing your doors" does eliminate any problems but it also inhibits your chances of getting a truly good deal. My latest was a nice VF 1871 2 Cent piece that I picked up from a newer seller with lousy scans. I asked a lot of questions and won the coin for $25 after shipping. Retails in the $70-80 range. A chance worth taking my friend. Trusted my gut a bit on this one too. Stay careful? - YES. Keep learning? YES - I'll be doing it till I'm pushing up daisys. In the meantime keep reading the posts by us "old farts". We can teach you a few things and besides sarcasm is a wonderfull thing! clembo
Here's my response Yup I got a response too and it seems a bit different from the others but still worth a good laugh! "I am no coin expert later but I seen a coin that looks like my on ebay and it's worth more then $50.00. And the friend that gave it to me said it was worth more then $20.00" Now I "seen" some good coins in my day on ebay but having read the response from this OBVIOUS Rhodes Scholar I'M BIDDING! P.S. I'll be cleaning this one up a little more nicer and relisting it as an MS67, circulated, multiple errors in grammar listing!
