What is this? Let’s have a bit of fun and see if anyone can guess what arrived in the envelope pictured below. The only hint is that it is a coin and something about it appealed to me (plus I was able to use the 15% off coupon eBay had last month to bring the cost down ).
That's a good guess (as the stamps might suggest). And I do have something like that in my collection. However, this coin has nothing to do with a cosmodrome or space.
That would be a great guess and it was the coin I was referencing to Kurt when I mentioned having something related to the cosmodrome.
Getting colder now. I wouldn't call it a tiny coin. On an unrelated note, I do own one tiny coin which I posted here: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/cool-coin-russia-ivan-the-terrible-odd-truview.277096/
Well I do know a guy from Kazakhstan, hey, why you you have my pen pal letter? Perhaps something minted by their government?
And the big reveal.... It’s a Silver Kokbori. According to a press release: “Kokbori ("Heavenly Wolf") was one of the main totem animals in the minds of the Proto-Turkic people. It is the ancestor spirit, guardian spirit, presiding deity that controls the whole universe. In the beliefs of the nomadic peoples, a wolf was considered one of the most significant symbols associated with the sky.”
Awesome! Wow, there are so many incredible coins. One will never run out of options for collecting that is for sure.
Huh. That is a really cool design. Is there some significance to the design of the golden half of the wolf? That is, is that a replica of some well known relic? Or is it just stylized?
I haven't been able to find the exact answer to that. Gold does have significance to many cultures. However, I can't find any reference to a known relic (just that the "Heavenly Wolf" is an important figure).
