    As promised my second Celtic capture....
    AV Quarter Stater ND unknown mint 13mm. 1.39g.
    Catuvellauni/ Trinovantes
    Cunobelinus 8-41AD
    obverse: rectangular panel/ vertical wreath motif (CAIAL)
    reverse: 2 horse biga/ leaf above/ four spoked wheel (CVNO)
    ABC2807 var. 1913 (4 known examples/ this the finest)
    Cunobelinus was on friendly terms with Rome.

    That is a gorgeous piece, John. I like that one a lot. Very nice horse from the biga. It is not galloping, rather it is flowing...

    Thanks :) Check out the Chris Rudd e-auctions, some of the Celtic coinage really is nice. Its really diverse, from the Eastern Basternae tribe/ Colchis/ Black Sea region, thru Balkans/ Central Europe/ Briton. The Celts like the Carthaginians had the "horse" as a prominent theme.

    panzerman, That's a complex composition for such a tiny Celtic coin, & fantastic strike :jawdrop:! This was not a tribe of barbarians.
