But I'm a total newbie to ancients. I'm familiar with his history and prophecy from the book of Daniel, but is $100 too much? I have no reference for pricing on something like this. Looks cool to me but I'm probably too new.

It's a $50 coin at best. Nice coin though, but for $100 I would expect far more detail, a VF+ to EF example.

Hmm. While I'm not well versed in the types and values of Seleukids, I would have thought $100 was a good price, plus I'm not finding many comparisons in archives. I think it's a rather attractive coin, personally. There's only one on Vcoins right now at a similar price and while it has clearer devices (to some extent), it isn't as appealing to me. I do not know if the date of the Vcoins example versus the date of the OP coin makes a difference.

Higher grade Seleucid bronze is tough, from any emperor, but it's out there. If the OP was a specialist looking for a particular date, $100 might be worth it. But I get the feeling he is a collector of Biblical coinage, looking for a nice coin of Antiochos IV, and not necessarily for a particular type. I could be wrong - we need him to tell us more.

I like this coin much better for $75.

Yeah, I find that one more interesting as well. Maybe he should buy both ;) :D

Does it have to be Antiochos IV? His coins are more expensive, Demetrios I has the same type for less. Here is my example.

Sorry, yes, I am on the path of Biblical coinage. Antiochus IV played an interesting role. This would really be my first major purchase and the whole history tied to him is exciting. Right now I'm just in the eye appeal phase, so type isn't particularly important.

Thank you for your input everyone! I wasn't comfortable with the overall price being such a newbie. I did find an alternative Antiochus IV for about half the price.

The original seller at Musa Numismatics was very understanding, helpful, and informative. I hope to buy from him in the future.

I'd have to disagree with others. That drachm is quite scarce (some would call it rare). Just check the sales databases. I didnt find any (though I didnt look closely). Its a more than fair price. I would price it at $250 myself.

If nobody else is interested I my buy it myself.
