I'm horrible at taking photos and used my phone to take these and they are unedited besides cropping. I think these give a general impression of the coins reflectivity and frost. It's unfortunately no better than a 61-63 imo due to hair lines...but the cameo effect gives the coin a very strong eye appeal. These photos were taken in the flip as it made capturing the cameo effect easier These ones I held the coin in hand & then cropped the photos. I couldn't really get it in focus but managed to show the reflectivity of the fields. The reverse frost is actually stronger than it appears here but the only semi focused photo I took was the one below
Wow, i guess i havent seen many of these in proof. Looks like a Cam to me... Added to my want list !!
I would think at least a star at NGC. The reverse looks strong enough, but the obverse appears slightly weaker (neck area and cap area).
PCGS has graded 6100 1942 Merc Proofs. One has made CA (they only show 15 Cameos in the entire Merc Proof series). NGC has been more generous, listing 11 Cameos out of 4100 grading events. Yours will have to be unequivocal in order to break into such a rare category. It would turn a $150 coin into a $3,000 coin....it certainly looks quite nice from here, but I'm not optimistic.
I doubt it will cameo due to the obverse, but IMO it's worth a shot, as the potential upside is high compared to the grading fee. Send it in with some other coins that you are thinking of slabbing, as that will allow you to spread around the mailing cost. In any case, it's a pretty coin.
