Good evening everyone, recently acquired this 1909 S wheat cent. It has what I believe to be a fairly dramatic lamination error. Am I correct about this being a lamination error or is this some other kind of error? Sorry if the pictures aren't the best quality, my camera didn't want to cooperate. Thanks for any insight guys
Wonder what the planchet looked like before the strike? Lamination was my first thought as well Paddyman, but I'm with you, it does make you think....pretty awesome tho
I"ll upload a couple pictures of the reverse tonight once I get out of work. I'll also try to get some better shots of the obverse. Thanks guys
I think it is a lamination error of some sort, possibly, delaminated before strike? Here is a reference to Laminations http://www.error-ref.com/?s=+lamination
Hmm I really need a camera that can do good macro shots, I may try scanning this coin later, but never had good luck with my old scanner for that. Here's a couple more shots of the obverse and a shot of the reverse.
I think it's a genuine lamination error. It may not be in the top grading publications but I think it's genuine.
