I have never looked towards boob tube for information, I used books and help from folks more experienced than me.
You know what they say "seeing is believing".
And in that case, believe what you want, Social media is in my opinion like walking a tight rope, your gonna fall and have your feelings hurt,

lol. I've seen a lot of your comments, like A LOT. After the initial "no"...you go on with mostly jokes. Maybe you are knowledgeable, I can't tell from your comments tho.

That's impressive then and I believe you, but not everyone is like you. Most I would say started with YT and progressed from there. I started with YT, when I can't get more information there, I moved on to forums and I've learned a lot from CT. I've learned a lot about the varieties and DDOs/DDRs and that's why I don't post as much on what I find because I was able to determine what I'm seeing. Point is, still...I got more interested with coin hunting/collecting because of what I watched on YT.

Well, just for starters, I am the one and only speaking presenter who gave a talk at all four ANA conventions held in the Chicago metroplex this decade. Not even Q. David Bowers did that.

I was named one of about 125 “Numismatic Points of Light” by former ANA President Walt Ostromecki for my volunteer efforts promoting the hobby. Each state had two, plus there were about 25 “at large”. I am one of PA’s two “regular” ones.

I am a Certified Exhibit Judge for the ANA, as is my 22-year-old son, the youngest one that exists.

I was the Ambassador Chairman at the 2012 ANA Convention in Philadelphia.

I have taken and passed several of the ANA grading courses, all with the High Honors purple ribbon, one as far back as the 1990’s.

And perhaps most of all, yes, I DO believe that MANY numismatic newbs are about the funniest darned thing I’ve seen, ESPECIALLY those who try to do it over the Internet.

Oh, and yes, I DO INDEED believe that trying to promote the Internet version of this hobby is as irresponsible as it is foolhardy. This is a hand to hand and face to face hobby, when done well.

That's quite impressive, no one here would know that until you posted it (maybe a few of the old timers.) But as for the "hand to hand and face to face hobby" comment...what's the point of this forum then? or any of the other forums here at CT.

 

I'll have to disagree with you. BoobTube (my opinion!) didn't get its start until 2005, and I think you will find that most of the CT members who post here regularly have been collecting for decades. We didn't have an internet. We had libraries. If we wanted to discuss something with others, we either drove to their location or used a land line to talk to them.

More often than not, I've found BoobTube further down an internet search list than specific subjects listed on CT. Maybe the recent newcomers to our forums just got used to watching cartoons in their early years so they are drawn to videos instead of carrying on a real conversation. I don't know!

It's good to know that you were able to use your powers of deductive reasoning to separate the meaningful information from the meaningless junk. Unfortunately, you are the rare bird. As VKB mentioned, we do get a lot of idiots who come here from BoobTube knowing nothing about numismatics with only the thought that the penny they just found is nothing short of winning the Powerball.

If your going to lay down smack on the OP’s thread you have to back up what you say, kind of the rules here. No pictures means no coins. I want to see some of your “error” coins you self attributed with your self made up methods. Did you make up your own names for the different anomalies as well? I’m sitting here waiting with baited breath for the images of your coin errors.

Problem is if you lead them there they DONT LISTEN and subsequently get slaughtered in the coin market but oh well I collect worthless cents so I can’t get hurt no matter how stupid I am. Or can I?
