There ARE Things Other Than Doubled Stuff, You Know

While reading CoinTalk recently, it has occurred to me that some posters may not realize that numismatics is more, much more, than finding doubled elements on coins.

Yes, I know, this will come as shocking news to some. All I can offer is a new self-help book that is taking form in my brain. The brick and mortar hospital will have to await the GoFundMe campaign.

Anyway (yes, I'm being intentionally sarcastically snarky here), don't take my snarkiness as anything other than pure bemusement about this phenomenon. Welcome to numismatics. Look around the hobby more generally, and eventually, with the right treatments, you can escape the "doubled stuff" monkey on your back. Our medical staff is considering highly dangerous doses of opioids as a treatment - it's safer.

So many newbie posts of "double" this or that if you look at the coin in adverse lighting with your hand covering your eyes you can nearly see doubling!!

 

Is YouTube truly the party responsible for this fixation? If so, this may require protest signs and songs and oiled-rag torches. If they really resist ... pitchforks!

Okay, this is going to sound HARSH, but it's offered out of love. If YouTube videos like the one shown in post #5 is what is moving you, you're as big an idiot as the guy who made that.

Just for starters, anyone who shoots video in portrait orientation, rather than landscape orientation, is a blithering idiot from the get-go, so there's that.

 

Do they have mint ones like that? Mint is my favorite.
