Mercy sakes! I thought this was going to be a nice thread with a lively debate concerning old vs. young collectors. So, what say we get back on topic? I'll start.....

Some young collectors I know are extremely intelligent and very knowledgeable on certain topics. I know one young collector who could tell me everything there is to know about Lincoln Cents and could probably quote accurate mintage figures off the top of his head!

Of course, some older collectors are also knowledgeable. There are young collectors and old collectors who know quite a bit... and vice versa... I try to learn from the knowledgeable ones regardless of their chronological age...

The best way to stop is not to post it BNB...
Ever heard the phrase "Baloney in Baloney out"??

    You reap what you sow...

I am a middle-aged collector and when I first started back in the early 80's I was eager as well..but I never came off or tried to imply that I know it all. No one knows it all..no way!!
Enjoy the hobby and learn from the folks who are educated within it.
You will find them if you look hard enough.

Intelligence and maturity, knowledge and experience, don't always occur in the same amount in an individual , nor accumulate at the same rate. The youth of today will get old and will be amazed at the antics of the young. Evolution drives the risk taking of the young, and if they survive that, experience will teach them their role in things as they grow old. One should expect many of the type of postings we see today because many young people have not even imagined the conditions of their older friends.

There are many things that weigh more on me when I talk coins than the age of the posters. Surprisingly, many young dealers irritate me as much as the older ones do some here. But I am mature, knowledgeable, experienced, and still have most of my intelligence, so I shall persevere and prosper! Bring on the the Young! They are juicy and crunchy :D

I'm not going to get involved in all of the hoopla :D, but here is my take on the age situation.

I'm young (19), and personally have never ran into an experience where I really felt a dealer was ignoring me, or treating me badly simply because I am young. From my experience the majority of older collectors are rather happy to see young collectors in the hobby. One example is the coin club I attend, there are a few YNs there, and I would say almost all of the members support the younger collectors 100%.

As forum the forum aspect; respect is given where respect is deserved, age, in my opinion has nothing to do with it. It doesn't matter if your 15 or 50 if you come on this forum and act like an idiot, you aren't going to get treated with much respect. But, at the same time if you come on to this forum and treat others with respect, respect will be given back, regardless of age. As for credibility, I believe that comes over time, if you're a person who continually posts accurate and helpful information you're going to gain credibility amongst the other members, regardless of age.

I just removed 75 posts from this thread that had nothing to do with the subject at hand and wasted nearly an hour of time I could have been spending with my family cleaning up the mess in this thread. I will shut it down if you guys go there again.

BNB, half of the posts I removed were yours, which tells me you were as much to blame as anyone else, so stop it, that's enough nonsense, from you and everyone else.
