Yes. But, the Ike in the link is not a $1000 coin. $2 max.

The eBay Ike is NOT a 2 dollar coin. You don't have to like it or participate in it but that doesn't change the fact that segment of collecting is real

There are also people who collect potato chips shaped like celebrities (and other stuff ... apparently). I'm still not sure I would consider these listings tied to any sort of reality:

It keeps happening over and over that makes it reality. If that's what they enjoy and have the money to do so who cares, they aren't hurting anyone and if it makes them happy that is all that matters

Why not? People collect whatever they want. Price is a factor of supply and demand.

    because:
I used to work at an Irish Bar and Restaurant. I guess I could have made a killing cutting the potato slices into specific shapes before throwing them in the fryer. Likewise, a steady supply of P01 coins could quickly be manufactured if the demand were to present itself.

I agree. I know quite a few collectors that have carried these in their pockets since the 70's when they were minted. Many are worn down worse that the coin that @Gregg has posted. I currently carry a 1971P around in my pocket.

Low Ball collecting is very real and these coins do carry a premium in any series.

I don't think it's as easy to manufacture P-01 coins as you think or it would have been way oversaturated already.

I'm with you in that I have less than zero interest in them, let alone at premiums, but I also can see the appeal for others. The beauty of this game is the vast amount of ways to go about collecting.

No not quickly. If a huge supply came out prices would adjust, but they're not as easy as you think to make and yes the TPGs will details coins they deem to be artificial wear. They're aware of the lowball market and are as tight with P-01s as they are for top pops.

Agreed. It's just a shame so many collectors always take such a derogatory approach towards other collects who enjoy segments they don't like

Nothing "poor" about a $1,000 coin. The highest grade probably isn't $1,000.

You're right the top grade for a 72-D Ike is a MS 67 from PCGS and it will cost you much more than a $1,000 especially with a CAC sticker. Generally 3-4k for those.

  13. Will they CAC a P-01 coin? Can there be quality within that grade?

If someone wanted to send it in yes they'll evaluate any grade there is if it's a coin they do

I think in an earlier thread there was a P-01 coin that was green beaned.
