This note has an interesting story - the portrait on the reverse was of a model who was paid £10 for her image and she wasn't really made aware of what it was being used for - later on her image appeared on the reverse of the Australian £10 note. Her name was Karina Nartiss and she was a Latvian immigrant to Australia.

 

That's an interesting story and a beautiful note as well, @scottishmoney. I'm afraid that my only pre-decimal Australian banknote is an extremely well-circulated rag that was probably brought back as a wartime souvenir.

This note was printed by Bradbury Wilkinson of New Malden Surrey - a wholly owned subsidiary of American Banknote company, thus the multicolour litho underprints on the front of the note that were developed by Homer Lee & Co in the early 1880s.
