O-115, R.5.</b> Star 1 pierces the closed lower loop and a leaf is solidly joined to the left base of the D in UNITED. As always, the obverse has a small die chip below star 1, with a crack to stars 2 and 3, and another crack between stars 2 through 5 and the border. An additional crack joins stars 5 and 6. Another crack connects the tops of TY to stars 9 and 10. The reverse has a crack through the tops of MERICA. All of those die cracks are described in the Overton reference.</p><p>A dark toning line through stars 12 and 13 looks like a die crack. On the reverse, another dark toning line curves up from the lower left, and it also has the appearance of a die crack at first glance. There also appears to be a die crack from the border through the left side of the O in OF, with no mention in Overton.</p><p>This impressive specimen, from an old-time holding, is clearly the finest known. The fourth edition Overton census reads 40, 20, 15, 15, 15, and the finest auction appearance in the last decade is just AU58, one of only eight auction appearances better than VF25. The opportunity to bid on, and acquire, an MS62 example is unprecedented.</p><p>Slight central weakness is noted, especially on the eagle's leg. The surfaces are fully lustrous light gray with splashes of pale blue, gold, and rose toning, and the surfaces show only a few trivial handling marks.
