I was considering bidding on this but decided to hold out for some coins I wanted later in the auction. I won 11 coins so I guess the strategy worked ;)

    Congrats on a great coin!

I am really glad you got that one David. It belongs in the collection of a Flavian fanatic. It is a coin for a specialist.

After careful examination by a team of forensic experts, the actual message of this post was finally located above the distractingly massive signature space image.

    ;)

11 coins! I have to say I’m glad you gave the Pan a miss. :D Can’t wait to see what you picked up.

Congrats @zumbly , that coin was one of mine...very happy to see it’s going to a good home and is staying within CT!

And I suppose I should thank @TIF for bumping up the price on this one :)

Excellent! Thanks to letting me know. One of these has been on my want list for some years now, and knowing the previous owner is a CT member is definitely a bonus. :)

You can turn off the option to view members signatures under your preferences I believe. I found that the other day. I normally don’t see signatures anyway because I’m browsing on my phone 90% of the time. The user friendliness and customizability of CT’s Xenforo platform really set this forum apart from other places IMO.

Also, in fairness it’s a nice collage job ;)

Hey guys, as a consigner or about 17 or 18 coins, I'm finally glad to see the auction happen as I sent the coins away nearly 8 months ago. Congratulations to the winners of some of the "Sallent Collection" coins. I'm glad to see some of you here will be housing some coins that were once part of my collection but no longer fit my collecting themes. As a custodian of ancient coins, its always nice to see someone else step up and rehome one of your former coins and be as excited about it when they got it as I was when I first got them.

I deployed the "hide signatures" a few weeks ago after this subject last came up, but it is a shame to forego seeing all of the useful website links just to hide a handful of users' pictures which stick out like commercials, so I made them visible again and just try to to ignore the picture sigs (only a few people use them anyway). This one, though... this one is hilariously massive :D. You're right about it being a very beautiful collage of sculpture images. I'd love to admire it in someone's photo gallery when the mood strikes. :hilarious:

NO! Don't post your coins on CT now but wait for the next Curtisimo game where you can post a coin that once was mine or Orfew's etc. That should confuse them all! I sold a coin that was once from PeteB and one from Ken Dorney. For the record, a Doug Smith and a nickel will no longer get you an ounce of coffee. Nine of mine got no bids. Some of you paid a high price for the coins IMO and others got bargains. I expected two of my unsolds to be in good demand and got five bids on some I did not expect to be popular. That is the definition of auction.

I was a first time consignor in the auction and it is pleasing to see that a couple of members liked my coins enough to give them a new home
As @Sallent mentioned, there was a long wait between sending my coins and the auction taking place but every new venture has some sort of teething problems and hopefully things run a lot smoother for @Severus Alexander in the future.

Curtis could make a three dimensional grid and we could be required to guess current owners of the coins and past owners of each coin, in order of ownership :D.

I should point out here that of the coins I won today my ex dougsmit win was the highest grade of the lot. When it comes to guessing a dougsmit coin you can trust nothing you think you know because he will make you look silly. :wideyed: That collection has a bit of everything in it.

I wonder if you bought the coin I deleted by error. I'm not saying which it was. :inpain: I'm running out of coins I could see myself selling. All I have to do now is learn to stop buying things I will regret in the morning. Of my last ten purchases, I only regret one. For me, that is a good average.

Looking at the auction results, it's generally interesting to see that many "eastern" coins, possibly with the exception of the Chinese section, did exceptionally well.

Bid on 6, won 2! Here's a Justinian follis from Kyzikos from TheRed's collection! It compliments my follis from Nikomedeia, and Constantonopolis nicely.

The one from PeteB was one of three from your collection I won, all at opening price. While I can't say I'd actually have appreciated more competition for them, I can at least tell you I really like all three and that they'll have a permanent home with me.

Here are two I picked up today from the medieval section - Louis IX gros tournois first then William X denier.

    William X.jpg

The William X coin is particularly nice. It's possible the gros tournois had some clipping based on its appearance and lighter weight but a wonderful coin that will be in my collection for a long time.

There were some other great coins in this part of the auction but I really wanted these two and so restrained myself from wanton bidding.

Congrats to all the other successful bidders and consignors!

OK.. sorry for my complete ignorance (I say that a lot!) .. but need to know if I actually won one or not?? I knew I would be unavailable today - had to coach a girls hockey game - 2 hours away ... so a 6 hour round trip right in the middle of the auction (darn). Put in 6 proxy bids and unlucky in 5 - which I can see ... but the sixth one went for my top bid .. lot 118 seems to have went for my top bid of $95.... don't see an invoice .. does precedence go to a "live" bidder. who equaled that bid?.. or was I successful?
    Being an amateur is hard..lol
