The obverse of the coin was designed by Patricia Lewis Verani. The reverse was designed by Sherl Joseph Winter. Uncirculated coins were produced by the Denver Mint and bear a "D" mint mark beneath the date on the obverse. Proofs were minted by the San Francisco Mint and bear an "S" mint mark. Ms Verani's initials (PV) rest below the extended arm on the obverse.
