This one is only PL and I much more prefer it over that proof.

wow, that's an awesome 81-s. And I'm not a huge monster toner fan.

I like that one also. The proofs have some exclusivity due to low mintage, so combining that with beautiful toning.....

I too don't understand why this didn't get a Cameo designation; dark fields and frosty devices.

You guys are gonna be surprised by this, but I actually prefer proof coins to be untoned and find toning like that to be distracting.

No, that does not surprise me. A lot of collectors who are serious about extremely clean surfaces in their proofs feel that way.

OP coin is a great example of when gorgeous color meets uber-high grade. I was looking through the PCGS pops and CoinFacts for images of the PR69 coins. The 1893 in PR69CAM is breathtaking, but has no auction appearance listed.

I remember a coin from a long time ago that was in Legend's case at a show. I think it was an 86 or 87, stupid high grade proof. Liquid greens, blues, and magentas almost looked like a CGI coin. I'd recognize it if I saw it again.

If $86K is too much for a 68, the Northern Lights 1881 in PR67+ sold more recently for $21K twice (the first time as a PR67). Every bit as stunning as the OP coin, but the toning bands aren't as sharply defined.[IMG]

I'm thinking I might need to get this one certified. I was just going to sell it as-is . . . . .

I like The color of the bottom of the reverse of the 82s. Don’t think I’ve saw that color before. Maybe there out there but that looks great. Anyone got another look alike. Kinda silver gray ain’t it. Thanks

How do you not love that coin. I would not sell that even for a loaf of bread. That has more colors the the PMS Ink co.
