In another thread I said I would post an image of my set of denarii of the First Twelve Caesars. It only took me 30 years to complete:grandpa:

Congrats. Hope to finish mine within 2 years.

Ive currently got Claudius and tiberius provincials in the place of silvers. Thinking of doing the same with caligula instead of the usual VESTA type since they seem cheaper.

Let me answer that by saying the final four were a JC portrait coin, Caligula, Claudius, and Otho. The most expensive and the very last of the four was the Caligula. I probably could have gotten any one of these along the way had I the available cash. For me, Caligula was the most problematic.

I am surprised Claudius was so late. Usually his coins are not bad at all, with bronze being easier than silver of course. If I were going to do similar, I might be enticed to do a "16 Caesar" kind of thing, dropping Julius but adding later emperors, all in sestertii. Something about those great big old chunks of brass that are just so cool.

Edit: Oh, and of course, dropping Otho. ;)

Getting a bronze for some of these emperors is doubly tough. Getting one in good condition could set you back much more than the silver. The reasoning behind beginning with JC was the book be Seutonius entitled "The Twelve Caesars". He begins with JC. In actuality, it should begin with Augustus and end with Domitian.

That's a beautiful set, but I'd appreciate a larger picture to enjoy it.

Being new here, I need to have someone explain to me how to make this image larger. I'm not tech savoy so I need step by step explanations. Or I can post each individual image which might be the easier thing for me to do.

You can simply upload or link a very large image. The forum automatically turns it into a thumbnail in the post. When you mouse over it, a new window opens with the large version.

Yup, I use www.tinypic.com. It can be as large as I want. The forum software here shrinks it down and as mentioned above you can mouse over it or click for larger version.

Very nice coins, Bing. I remember when you purchased the Caligula. Congrats, it's a big accomplishment to get the entire set of silver denarii.

Have you managed to get all the others under the rule of the various Caesars that minted the coins? Such as Livia, the wife of Augustus?
