i am not sure if our last winner (kryptonite) is going to post a coin? so in the interim, I will fill in the gap just bought this one tonight ... NGC put a 64★ grade on it if you want to guess the price, that's fine if you just want to gawk, that's fine too!
Winged, you are chomping at the bit! If you paid $350 for a common date (85-O) with more intense toning than this, I'm going to guess $375 for this one: better grade but more subtle toning. I respond to this pleasing toning a lot but once again hope the coin in hand holds up color-wise. Edit: Seriously, I'm too tired tonight; I went too high. Grey sheet bid is $89; something in the 3x range would be more realistic. Oh well, consider me covering the high end.
i dont think we're going to get any more guesses so I will post the answer i paid $165.50 rzage was closest. I think I got this one on the cheap, as I put in a higher bid. I was lucky I didnt have very much competition. I was thinking it would sell for somehwere in the $250 to $300 range. The coin surface is pretty clean (believe it or not, ive seen some torn up NGC 64's) It should arrive in the mail in a few days and I will post an in-hand photo. Hopefully my new copy stand will have arrived by then and perhaps I can post 2 photos ... one taken in indirect sunlight ... and one taken under light from reveal lightbulbs using a copy stand I dont think we are getting very many posters of toned coins anymore so if anyone has a toned coin to toss out there for price guessing, feel free!
Good heavens, all these Morgans... lets change it up. PCI, gold label, MS65,, purchased around 6-10 years ago.
so we are guessing on the price paid on the Washington Quarter 6 years ago? i will guess $25 By the way ... just wanted to follow up on the last coin posted I got the coin in today's mail and just took a photo with my iPhone (in indirect sunlight) Here tis .. This was the sellers photo This one looks fantastic to me ... shows great color in all lighting conditions. I think if I put the coin on a copy stand with bright artifical light i could match the seller's photo fairly closely. I got very lucky with this coin!
$12.50, I am about 90% finished with a set of toned silver washies, business and proof strikes so I am aware of current values but 6-10 years back? taking the pci factor, the 65 grade and the not so nice toning for that date, I have to go low.
The Rosie 10c that I put up in my post #1830 is back up on teletrade tonight (lot 1187) after not selling at a level of at least $90, it will be interesting to see what happens tonight. It was mentioned that multiples can be much higher with lower priced coins but this one is out of the ballpark.
seasnake ... i love toned coins ... but I have to be honest ... i hate that one! Isnt that black toning on the back what they call terminal? I am shocked this one got a STAR from NGC. Maybe the photo doesnt show it off well.
