First off, market about $700, I would guess $1050 again. As for my woodies, the only problem is they have been discounted save one raw coin from Penny Lady. You people do not seem to believe me when I tell you they are discounted, but they are.
I'm going to hear it about this one but I don't really like that toning. A lot of Franklins look that way to me and I'd discount for it. But that is me maybe $600.
While I think that the photograph is really holding back the presentation of the coin and I think I could make that coin absolutely glow, I still doubt that the toning on that coin yielded any significant premium. In fact, the coin is an old fatty slab with a CAC sticker with an incredible grade of MS67. If anything, the mottled toning probably negatively affected the price of the coin. I will guess $800.
I could easily see myself entering a bid of at least $1,000.00 on this coin . So, that is my suggestion. I agree, this photo presented does not fully or adequately display the attributes of this coin and the vibrancy, particularly on the obverse . In addition, I don't think the CAC approved beanie was as much an influence on price, as was the toning interest .
If you lessen the yellow from the photo to achieve a truer tone, this is what you get: I.e., it pumps up the colors but also the dark. PS: this undoubtedly will look different on different people's monitors and might cast blue on some, but it's worth the comparison, I think.
FWIW, that's pretty nice toning for a Walker. For some reason, and kind of like Peace Dollars, in my experience you just don't find many with attractive toning.
That's not a bad correction at all Ovalman... definitely shows the blueberries better than my pic.... the coin almost looks painted to me and definitely looks better in hand, non-magnified. Yellow hat and clothes, sun burned neck, branches have little blue berries on them, some greens in the hat and other places not being captured well at all... red and yellow sky... a very nice "fall" toner that looks like one of my kids better done color by numbers pictures. It immediately reminded me of "oh brother where art tho" movie, and the cinema photography in that movie (all golds, yellows),,, if coins have seasons, then this one is the best representation of Fall I have ever seen. 7 hours to next batter...
Just to clarify my analogy there is a lot to like about that coin and for me, some not to like. I would still be proud to own it.
Lehigh wins !,,, again. $776 I was very happy to take this one with minimal premium. Moral of the story - imo, there are some really nice toners out there to be had with minimal premium.... putting together a "fall" collection is on my do list, expecially given that there is less $ downside and exposure to toner market crash,,,,,, all the toning pleasure - less toning market risk... win-win.
Okay guys, let's heat this up a little bit with an Appalachian Jefferson Nickel. I purchased this retail circa April 2008. Numismedia Wholesale is $61.
