Don't forget the last sentence of his initial post -

Learning how to price toned coins includes all toned coins. It also includes not paying a premium for them. That might even be the most important aspect that any can learn.

I for one am more interested in the posts of toners that had no premium.... if anything, I will use this thread to identify what I feel is attractive toning that generally carries no premium and keeping my eyes open for them....,,, I'm all about buying attractive stuff cheap and staying away from paying excessive premiums,, that said, a secondary benefit of this thread my be to learn something about toners that do drive crazy premiums so that if I ever come across some on the cheap, or at marginal premium, maybe I'll know enough to buy one day and sell the next day with some profit...

I agree that every toned coin posted can teach us something. It doesn't really matter if the coin drove a hugh premium or nothing at all, they are all educational as long as we discuss the reasons why we priced the coin the way we did. If we just post a dollar amount with no reasons, then it becomes the price is right.

It may be more fun to guess the high premium coins, but as time goes on, and this thread progresses, I think we will see our fair share of monsters.

Okay, moving on. I'll have to look at the example again and make my bid .

I'll take a guess that the price of the coin was $ 335.00 or a 35 % premium tacked on by the Seller.

I'll go $250. I like the toning and think it would be worth something extra (~10-15%) slabbed,,, but since you got it raw, I'll assume that there was little premium and maybe even discount.

Coinman0456 nailed it, $350 was my price. Although it was at the top end of what I wanted to pay it really is a nice coin in hand. It is my only example of this issue and don't regret the purchase, I think with good photos it would sell for more down the road.

I would not be regretful in any sense for purchasing or paying the amount you did. The coin, IMHO has great Eye Appeal and considering my own taste, that is what I would have offered as well. That's a nice gift !

Allow me. The below Walker is graded NGC MS 67. It was purchased in March of this year.

I'll estimate your cost at $1,345.00 While the example is an extremely nice high grade coin, I don't feel there was any Toning premium specifically paid. The strike alone cover's all the bases on this one.

Had to put my sunnies on for this one, WOW $1,450, needs a star

Yeah, not sure why it didn't get a star. If this one doesn't have "eye appeal", then there aren't any coins deserving of a star. Just my personal opinion as the owner.

Coinman, I have to say I think your guess is right on. I'll go a bit higher at $1,360. Strengths: solid strike and sweet toning; a very attractive coin. Drawbacks: slightly grainy obv. die; dark freckles that look to be the result of fingerprints; minor hit on the sun (and on the arm as well); and in an NGC slab that won't command the premium of a PCGS one.

PS: I mention the drawbacks as potential ones that might limit someone's bid on this coin; they're very minor.

Wholesale is running about $1200. I would guess $2000. BTW, it did not get a star because of the spots.

I do like the pastel toning. $1425

I'll say $1550. It gets a small premium for the faint toning at this grade level.

Interesting. In fact, I never even noticed the spots until I had photos taken of them. I wasn't collecting anything in particular back in March but am addicted to visiting certain dealer websites on a daily basis. Mostly just love looking at nice coins. The moment I saw this one, just had to have it.
