No worries then....and as an FYI for all, it's ok to post toners that we don't own (many of my postings aren't mine-just interesting ones I've followed).
@ddoomm1 came closest to the $770 price in 2015 and no one was close to the 2020 price of $1,688.62! ... @thomas mozzillo had the highest 2020 guess Points table: ddddd - 46.26 Points Beefer518 - 31.26 Points Duke Kavanaugh - 30.51 Points baseball21 - 26.61 Points Lehigh96 - 26.51 Points Mainebill - 24.01 Points heavycam.monstervam - 23.51 Points ddoomm1 - 23.51 Points jtlee321- 23.02 Points jwitten - 16.51 Points Johndoe2000$ - 16.51 Points IBetASilverDollar - 14.01 Points Pickin and Grinin - 14.01 Points thomas mozzillo - 13.01 Points Santinidollar - 11.51 Points ron_c - 10.01 Points KSorbo - 7.51 Points brg5658 - 7.01 Points kSigSteve - 7.01 Points bsowa1029 - 6.51 Points Paddy54 - 6.01 Points EyeAppealingCoins - 5.01 Points Bman33 - 4.51 Points C-B-D - 4.01 Points mumu - 4.01 Points Sunflower_Coins - 4.01 Points Night*Hawk - 3.01 Points jpcienkus - 3.01 Points Paul M. - 3.01 Points Volante - 1.01 Points moneycostingmemoney - 1.01 Points Cascade - 1.01 Points Physics-fan3.14 - 1.01 Points Jebocement - 1.01 Points charlietig- 1.01 Points toned_morgan - 1.01 Points LuxUnit - 1.01 Points Morgandude11 - 1.01 Points GenX Enthusiast - 1.01 Points
You and @thomas mozzillo won the last round, so either were eligible. We can also open the floor to anyone who has something to post.
This one just arrived in the mail. It has the most incredible toning! The coin itself is 1881 years old. Don't know how old the toning is, though. Several decades, I'm guessing. Faustina I, AD 138-140. Roman AR denarius, 3.13 g, 18.3 mm, 5 h. Rome, AD 138-139. Obv: FAVSTINA AVG ANTONINI AVG P P, bare-headed and draped bust, right. Rev: CONCORDIA AVG, Concordia standing left, holding patera and double cornucopiae, and resting l. arm on column. Refs: RIC 329; BMCRE 42; Cohen 153; Strack 395; RCV --; CRE 92.
That’s a beauty @Roman Collector Can you please give us a ballpark range for similar pieces so that we have a basis to guess the premium? I’m sure that many people (me included) wouldn’t know the typical prices as we tend to focus more on US.
I don't think there are guides to tell us a "normal" price for Ancients, right? Until we have that ballpark I'd have no idea what to guess. But this is interesting to find out what toning might do to them.
No clue on the prices for these but I am not shy to throw out a number. I am guessing these go for $300 to $500 untoned. A beautifully toned example likely not being common at all. The flan does have a crack and the centering doesn’t seem that great as some of the legend is cut off and I know is often a contributing factor to eye appeal. I will wager $650 as my guess.
