Does that not seem high to you? It’s quite a premium for what looks to be minimal toning. Is it an upgrade candidate?
The premium may be part registry related, but finding attractively toned high grade Franklins is no easy task. My guess is that the two people who bid this high are aware of that fact.
I agree that it’s not easy to find an attractively toned high grade Franklin. I’m just surprised that multiple people saw that example as something more than moderately toned. I could see an extra $100 for the luster and grade, but the toning just doesn’t excite me on this one (but hey we all see things differently).
I agree on the toning. I wonder if someone was thinking upgrade too being a plus I bet someone is going to try and get it in a 67 holder especially with the price jump to $1500 in the 67
Bingo, the upgrade potential of the coin is definitely a factor, but the combination of toning and luster on this coin is what would drive that same upgrade factor. Personally, I would have no problem with this coin in an MS67 holder.
Let's try another Franklin. This one has a PCGS guide of $900 and the only other sale I've found in the same grade was for $705 on Heritage in 2017. 66+ is also the highest grade at PCGS for a non-FBL 1962.
I don’t find that one the least bit attractive. That must have been submitted enough times to catch the TPG on a great day. 66 nope. 66+ definitely not. Terminal toning on both sides. Fingerprint on the reverse. I will guess it went for $950 and included a shovel.
