I was drive through yesterday, which is probably what caused me to be $20 off. Back there everything is in a different place and being so habit based, I have a hard time with the switch, but it wasn't a big deal. It's surprising how often a business deposit is wrong. Usually, a bank has 1 or 2 business that is regularly off. For example, ours is McDonalds. Everyday, there is a couple McDonalds night drop deposits for us to do. I'd say 20% of them are miscounted. Most of the other business customers are usually right...and if they are wrong they are off by 1 bill.
You would think if a business is off by that much, they would invest in a currency counter. A good one can be had for less than $1500 that not only determines the denomination, but also checks the UV color of the security thread. If I owned a business and the deposit slips were off that frequently, I would definitely have to question what other slippage was occurring.
I agree, the sad thing is those deposits aren't THAT big. They are usually less than $2500 (at the most). I count through one in a couple minutes. I must say though, I love those counters. They make my life so much easier.
