This one is an unofficial entry (I'll tell everyone why after we get some thoughts):

Was PCGS still using those slabs with series and coin numbers in 2003? That damn thing is radioactive. Please tell me this is a fake slab.

2002-2005 for that type of holder according to the PCGS website.

And the slab is real; there is more to the story...

Absolutely artificial and absolutely horrid. The only way to make a bad coin worse

check out this nickel graded with FS designation when the steps have separation and contact marks, and why is there a CAC sticker on it ??? theres more FALSELY graded nickels with FS, bluridgesilverhound on youtube shows them pretty good, one 1953-S sold for 24,000 and another one 64-D for 12,400 BOTH with no FS and overgraded,

The problem is that PCGS allows shallow marks across the steps as long as (in their opinion) it doesn’t fully interrupt the steps. Also, it is common for coins to appear to have step interrupting marks at certain angles, but appear full step in other angles. It really is something that needs to be evaluated in hand. I’m not saying that PCGS hasn’t screwed the pooch with some of their FS designations, only that it’s not rampant. That said, it’s little consolation to the guy who paid $25K for a $100 coin.
